MUSUEM OF HISTORY AND FUTURE

The word "Turku" was originally translated as "market", and the warehouse buildings in the Linnanniemi area are also one of the characteristics. The concept of the building is actually derived from "market" and "warehouse". Based on its open, inclusive and communicative characteristics, the building is defined as an "art market" and a "cultural warehouse". Accordingly, the building is divided into upper and lower floors, with the "art market" on the ground floor an open space while the "cultural warehouse" on the first floor for exhibition. The building is specially arranged to form an entrance plaza and a roof terrace, respectively facing the sea and the castle, establishing a connection between the sea and the castle.

The T-shaped lobby on the ground floor opens to four directions. The north-south part is flanked by the lecture hall, DIY workshop, co-working space and event space. The east-west part is lined with the multi showroom space, shop, cafe and dining hall. The sliding folding doors connect the interior spaces with the outdoor plaza, which is not only an expansion of space but also a response for cultural exchanges. At the center of the T-shaped hall is the atrium, which is connected to the "cultural warehouse". The double-floor space, providing enough capacity for large-scale exhibits, will become an open central art exhibition stand.

The upper level "cultural warehouse" returns to the characteristics of the warehouse buildings in the port area. The truss structure provides the exhibition hall with a large free space without columns, which is suitable for any forms of exhibit arrangement. Through the translucent roof window, soft diffuse light will meet the lighting needs of the exhibition hall, with the supplementary artificial lighting, which will create a better experience for visitors.

Located between the main exhibition hall and the temporary exhibition hall, the southern facade of the hall can be opened upward to form a terrace for viewing and relaxing. The undulating roof effect echoes the castle tower behind it, leading the eyes of visitors from the harbour to the museum and then to the castle, achieving harmony and unity. The roof terrace on the northeast side provides a place for organizing activities. With the castle as the backdrop, modern culture and history meet each other again.
